Media at CES: Your “Pro-Bono” Promotional Partner
by Dan Cole

Book your plane tickets, fill that appointment calendar and start the countdown! The 2009 International CES is less than three months away, and the buzz is building. Is your organization ready for the world’s largest annual consumer technology event?

It’s said that there is no such thing as bad publicity, and press coverage is a necessary pillar of any business’ marketing strategy and critical to success. Many exhibitors view CES strictly as a potential marketplace for new and expanded business partnerships. But in this age of infinite information sources and 24-hour as-it-happens news, another key value of the show remains prominent: media coverage.

The public is now more savvy, discerning and informed than ever, and the CE buying public may be even more so. They rely heavily on the media for information about CE product purchases and much of that year-long coverage stems from the International CES. From a pure numbers perspective, CES draws more media than the Super Bowl. The 2008 International CES drew 4,500 trade and mainstream press to the show along with 1,900 market and financial analysts to get the scoop on the latest products and technologies from the consumer electronics industry. Media came from notable print, online and broadcast media outlets such as Newsweek, CNET and CNBC along with a plethora of bloggers and new media vehicles that are rapidly growing in reach and influence. NBC Universal was able to broadcast their official outlets live from the show floor last year through our Official Broadcast Partnership. CES reaches millions of eager technorati worldwide.
