What is the official name of the show?


The official name of the show is the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

What does CEA represent?


CEA is the Consumer Electronics Association, the producer of the International CES. All profits from CES are reinvested into industry services, including technical training and education, industry promotion, engineering standards development, market research and legislative advocacy.

CEA is the preeminent trade association promoting growth in the consumer technology industry through technology policy, events, research, promotion and the fostering of business and strategic relationships. CEA represents more than 2,500 corporate members involved in the design, development, manufacturing, distribution and integration of audio, video, mobile electronics, wireless and landline communications, information technology, home networking, multimedia and accessory products, as well as related services that are sold through consumer channels. How do I find out who is exhibiting?


The International CES features more than 2,700 consumer technology exhibitors in 30 product categories. Visit the online CES Exhibitor Directory. You can search the directory in a variety of ways, including company name, brand name and venue.

On-site, pick up a copy of the show guide, and the official International CES Directory with updated exhibitor information.

Hotel/Travel




Should I wait to book my hotel and airline reservations so that prices will come down?


Airfare: Book your airline now; fares may only continue to go up. And a Saturday night stay is not required for the best fares in Las Vegas. Get other tips on how to save money when booking your airline reservation to Las Vegas.

Hotel accommodations: International CES has blocked rooms at favorable rates for a limited time at a variety of hotels throughout Las Vegas. We at CES are as interested in keeping hotel costs down as you are.  Please note that it is important to book hotels early through our CES hotel program to get the best rates.

We continue to keep hotel information current so attendees can choose hotel rooms from the most relevant selection possible.  Check the hotel section frequently; additional rooms and hotels are added throughout the year.

What if my preferred hotel is sold out?


You have two options if your preferred hotel is sold out. You can consult the online CES hotel program, where rates tend to be lower, and look for alternate properties near where you want/need to stay.  For example, although the CES block for The Venetian sold out in the fall preceding the 2008 International CES, many other hotels nearby participated in the CES hotel program and had available rooms, including Treasure Island, Mirage, Harrah’s and Imperial Palace.

You can also contact your preferred hotel(s) directly to book a room, although if their CES block is sold out, you will likely end up paying higher prices. Get more hotel information.

Why are the rates at some hotels so high?


CES negotiates the lowest rates possible, but ultimately, hotel rates are based on supply and demand. As you can imagine, demand is incredibly high during our show, and CES rates often reflect that. The good news: Approximately 22,000 more hotel rooms will be available for the 2009 International CES than the previous year. Even so, please help us by only reserving the number of rooms that you know you will need.

We also look to do other things to bring value to our attendees like the complimentary shuttle bus service that runs to all official CES hotels.

How do I get an International visa letter of invitation?


You can request a visa letter of invitation through the badge registration process. Once you complete your registration for the International CES, your visa invitation letter will be automatically generated and ready for you to print out from your own computer. This website has an entire section devoted to assist CES attendees traveling from outside the U.S.

How can I avoid airport delays when leaving Las Vegas?


Increased security makes airline travel a little more time consuming. According to most news reports and our own road warriors, the biggest lines are at ticket counters at the largest airports where customers are purchasing tickets, undergoing random baggage checks and checking luggage. Check with your travel agency, your selected airline or local airport about what to expect.

The Transportation Security Administration offers information on air travel security measures.

Purchase tickets ahead of time. You may be able to use e-tickets as long as you have proof of purchase, such as a printed confirmation, receipt or itinerary. Many airports have resumed curbside check-in. If you need to check luggage, allow yourself plenty of time. Carry valid photo identification. Prior to your flight, check with your airline or airport regarding recommended time to arrive at the airport.

Additionally, Bags to Go now services five major airlines, which means you can stay at CES longer and head to the airport later!  If you are flying Delta, Frontier, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, or US Airways, Bags to Go is a convenient service that has been implemented at The Venetian, the Luxor hotel and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).  Bags to Go enables you to check-in your luggage through to your final destination and also gives you the option of printing your boarding pass in advance. 

To take advantage of this service you must check luggage three hours prior to your flight and have an e-ticket. All participating airlines charge a fee of $20 per person for this service. Southwest is the only participating airline that will allow each passenger to check two bags at no additional charge, other than the standard Bags to Go fee. All other airlines only allow one bag per person. Those checking more than one bag will be subject to additional fees. Please see your airline’s website for their baggage policies.

At The Venetian, Bags to Go is located on Level 1 of the meeting space, next to the Package Center. At the Luxor hotel, Bags to Go is located on the business center level, next to VIP check-in. At the LVCC, Bags to Go is located in the Grand Concourse, across from Central Hall 3.

Does CES provide shuttle services from the LVCC and Sands Convention Center to McCarran Airport?


Shuttle service to McCarran Airport will be available every 30 minutes on Saturday, January 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, January 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shuttle service to McCarran is available from the Las Vegas Convention Center (Central Hall front entrance) and the Sands Expo and Convention Center (front entrance). The one-way ticket price for this service is $5.

Many signs will be posted throughout the show to guide you. The printed CES Show Guide, available on-site, offers maps and other valuable information.

This is one of many free shuttles CES provides during the show.

Registration and Badges




Why do I have to pay $100 to register for CES after October 31?


New this year, the fee structure for admission to all exhibits, TechZones, SuperSessions, keynotes and selected conference sessions has changed. Please take note of these important registration fees and dates:
 
Before November 1, 2008: FREE
November 1, 2008: $100
5:01 p.m. EST, January 2, 2009: $200

The nominal registration fee helps ensure attendee quality at the International CES, as this trade-only event is crafted specifically for consumer technology professionals. All show proceeds are re-invested into the industry by the show's producer, CEA. However, consumer technology professional can enjoy free registration before November 1.

What are the requirements for attending International CES?


International CES is not open to the general public. You must be in the consumer electronics industry to be eligible to attend the show. Our attendees are made up of more than 140,000 individuals including manufacturers, retailers, content providers and creators, broadband developers, installers, engineers, corporate buyers, government leaders, financial analysts and the media—representing the United States, Canada, Mexico and more than 140 other countries. All attendees must be at least 16 years of age. Two forms of identification are required on-site (one photo ID and one proof of business affiliation/business card).

Can students attend the International CES?


The International CES is a trade-only event. Students are only permitted on Sunday, January 11, 2009.  All students will be charges $100 on-site, and students cannot register in advance. Students must show a student ID to qualify for this single-day rate. If the student ID does not have a photo, they will have to show a photo ID in addition to their student ID. Can children and/or spouses attend the International CES?


No, children and spouses may not attend the International CES. The International CES is not open to the general public, and all attendees must be in the consumer electronics industry to be eligible to attend the show. Children, spouses, friends and family who accompany you to Las Vegas will not be granted access to the International CES unless they are over the age of 16 and have proof of industry affiliation.

Yes, you may register on-site. The International CES makes it easy. Register at any of the following areas:

I registered for the International CES. Where's my badge?


We look forward to welcoming you to the International CES. Registering before December 1, 2008, helps ensure you will receive your badge by mail before the show. If you register after December 1, we will still mail your badge, but cannot guarantee delivery because of holiday mail delays. If you do not receive your badge by mail, please report to one of our registration areas when you get to the show. To receive a copy of your confirmation please contact us at CESreg@CE.org.

If I have a badge, can I walk right into the show?


No, each registrant who receives a badge by mail will need to go to a badge holder pickup location to get their official International CES badge holder. Admittance without a badge holder is not permitted. International CES is a trade-only show and is not open to the general public. Therefore, we must ensure all attendees are industry affiliates before issuing a badge holder. After the show, CES performs an official attendance audit through an outside auditing firm, and the on-site badge holder pickup process serves as a method for counting attendance.

Two forms of identification are required to pick up your badge holder:
  • One personal picture ID such as a driver's license or passport.
  • One business ID such as a business card, pay stub or statement on company letterhead indicating that you are representing that company at International CES.

What type of identification will I need to pick up a badge and/or badge holder?


Security and CES attendee qualification is important to us. To enter CES, you need to bring two forms of identification to pick up your badge holder, badge or to register on-site:
  • One personal picture ID such as a driver's license or passport.
  • One business ID such as a business card, pay stub or statement on company letterhead indicating that you are representing that company at International CES.
  • You will not be able to pickup your badge holder without both forms of identification.

I do not want to wait in long lines to get into the show. What should I do?


Our best advice is to not carry bags into the show. You will move through show entrances quickly if you have your badge displayed properly in your official CES badge holder and you are not carrying bags, which are subject to search. All bags will be subject to search upon entry into CES venues. Be sure to allow yourself time before your first appointment or conference session to pick up your badge and/or badge holder.

How do I find my way around?


Let the International CES provide the transportation. CES offers complimentary shuttle service to and from all official CES hotels and both the Las Vegas Convention Center and Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian, Thursday- Sunday, January 8-11, 2009. Wednesday service will be provided from hotels on routes 2 through 9 only from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Services Thursday through Saturday will run from 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Look for information signs posted in hotel lobbies for exact times and boarding locations. Visit the CES Shuttle section of the website to download the latest shuttle map and schedule.

Take advantage of the complimentary LVCC Shuttle Loop around the Las Vegas Convention Center. The shuttle runs every 10 minutes and stops at five key locations around the building.

The complimentary LVCC Golf Cart Intraconnect is another great asset; use it to travel from the back of Central Hall 5 to the back of South Hall 2 during show hours.

A complimentary Sands/Venetian Express shuttle runs every 10 minutes between the LVCC and Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian from 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, January 7-10, and 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 11. 

There is no on-site parking at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, but a satellite lot will be available for limited parking on show days. Our suggestion? Plan accordingly, leave your car at home or at your hotel and take the complimentary shuttle to the Sands from all official CES hotels.

ADA accessible buses for those with special needs are available during scheduled shuttle hours. Please request service at least 20 minutes in advance of desired pickup time. Is there a shuttle bus schedule available?


CES offers complimentary shuttle service. One system runs back and forth between the Las Vegas Convention Center and all official CES hotels. Another system runs back and forth between the same official CES hotels and the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian, home to emerging technology exhibitors, high-performance audio & home theater exhibitors, many CE Spotlights, including market-specific CES TechZones.

How do I rent a scooter/wheelchair?

Are suitcases and strollers allowed on the show floor?


We want to help make your International CES experience a pleasant and productive one and realize you may have some bags you need to store. Baggage check is available with FedEx Kinko's in both the LVCC Grand Lobby and the front of South Hall 1 on a first come, first served basis. At the Sands Expo and Convention Center, coat and bag check is located just inside the lower level entrance, adjacent to the existing Sands security podium.

Small, two-wheeled bags are permitted.

For safety reasons, strollers are not allowed on the show floor. All attendees must be at least 16 years of age.

Are cameras allowed on the show floor?


Yes, credentialed media are permitted to bring camera equipment onto the show floor. Exhibitors retain the right to restrict photography of their products or displays, and such decisions are within the discretion of the exhibitor and are not controlled by CES.

Where can I check my bags?


Coat and bag check is available at the FedEx Kinko's location in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center as well as in one satellite location at the front of South Hall 1 next to Starbucks. Items may not be left overnight. At the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian venue, coat and bag check is located just inside the Sands lower level entrance, adjacent to the existing Sands security podium.  Coat/bag check will be open one hour prior to show opening and one hour after show closing.

Where can I go to grab a quick lunch?


Look for a variety Grab-N-Go kiosks located throughout the show floor. These food stations feature pre-made lunches, snacks and beverages.

At the LVCC, you can also grab lunch at Banners Restaurant, located in the North Hall Lobby or IFM, located in the South Hall lobby. You can also find great options and restaurants at the LV Hilton and Renaissance Hotel.

What does International CES do to enhance security at the show?


Your safety at the show is important to us. International CES show management employs strict security measures, while still balancing safety concerns with traffic flow challenges. Attendees should allow themselves extra time to arrive at meetings and events, as it may take a little while to pass through the show floor. Here are a few security measures to expect:
  • Two forms of ID required – one personal (driver's license) and one business (business card) are required to obtain a badge holder. Only exhibitors with proper ID will be permitted to pick up multiple badge holders.
  • All bags will be subject to search upon entry into CES venues starting noon the day before the show opens. This includes personal items such as purses, laptop cases and luggage.
  • Bomb dogs will be on-site as a precautionary measure.
  • There will be an increased presence of Las Vegas Metro Police and LVCVA officers during show days.
  • Surveillance cameras will be installed at key entrances and freight door areas.
  • Private vehicles will only be allowed on LVCC or Sands premises to drop off passengers. No standing or unloading will be permitted at any time.

How do I gain admittance to any or all of the keynote addresses?


International CES keynote addresses are held in the spacious Palazzo Ballroom at The Venetian. This ballroom accommodates 3,500-4,000 attendees, a staggering 2,000 seats over the total capacity of our previous facility.

General admission for all keynote sessions is first-come, first-served with queues beginning on level 5 of The Venetian. Seating begins one hour prior to each keynote.  

The Venetian is conveniently located next to the Sands Expo and Convention Center. To get there, take the complimentary Sands/Venetian Express directly from the Las Vegas Convention Center, or take the shuttle buses from any official CES hotels directly to the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian. Tip: If you are staying at Treasure Island, the Mirage, Harrah’s or the Imperial Palace, you can simply walk from these hotels to The Venetian. Follow the signs to the keynote addresses and exhibit areas.

What does my "satisfaction is guaranteed" mean?


We want you to find the CES Conference Program to be a valuable experience. If you attend the International CES Conference Program and do not gain one new insight, tip or piece of information that you can put to use upon returning to your place of business, then we will refund your money. All we ask is that you let us know you were dissatisfied before the show is over. To do this, please visit a conference registration area and speak with a registration representative prior to the close of the show. Unfortunately, we will not be able to honor requests received after the close of the show.

What is the cancellation policy for conferences?


Cancellations for paid conferences received in writing on/before December 26 are refundable, minus a $50 processing fee. After December 26, cancellations are subject to the entire seminar fee. If you do not cancel by December 26 and do not attend International CES conferences, you are still responsible for payment. You may substitute the name of one conference registrant for another at any time. Please submit all cancellations in writing by sending your request to CES081.cancel@expoexchange.com or via fax to 301-628-5127. Cancellation requests not received in writing will not be honored.

What is MyCES all about? What can I do?


MyCES is provided to you as a service resulting from your registration for the International CES. This tool is your personal assistant that intelligently mines through the entire event community to find the knowledge, people and products most closely matched to meeting your objectives.   • Utilize the intelligent search engine to find companies, products, and people of value to you.
  • Execute a keyword search directly from the homepage or click on the Search tab to access the various criteria-based search tools. Select the underlined company name, product name, job title or "View Details" link next to any search result for more information about that company, product, or person. You can save any search for future reference. Be sure to select the "Add to My Event Plan" link for any company, product or person you want to remember to see at CES.
  • Build a personal event agenda with business value for you. "My Event Plan" is your personalized event planner. It retains a list of companies, products and people that are of immediate value to your business. Just select "Add to My Event Plan" when you find things of value as you initiate searches, view recommendations and receive incoming connection requests. Select "View My Event Plan" anytime to review your must-see list for the show.

I am receiving e-mails about recommendations. How do I access/use this information?


The e-mails you are receiving are to draw your attention to the customized reports which are available to you based on your profile. In the weeks before CES, these reports are activated one-by-one. Several of these reports are active lists which are updated in real-time as more people register for the show and use the portal so you should check these reports often. As you review the results, you can:
  • "Add to My Event Plan" any company or product that you wish to see. Right before the show, you can print your "Event Plan" to use as a guide to ensure you see the things most valuable to you.
  • Improve your matches by reviewing and updating your profile. Select the link to the right of the report or go to the "Home" tab and select the "Profile Summary" sub-tab to review and edit your profile information. You can view the impact of any updates to the "You-Based" reports immediately. Just select the "Reports" tab and select the "You-Based Event Report" link.

How can I view the information others can see about me?


Click on the “Home” tab, and then select the "Profile Summary" sub-tab. This displays your detailed profile information. Initially, this information is built based on the information you provided when you registered for CES. Please review this information for accuracy and completeness. To provide you with the best company, product and people search results your information should be as detailed and accurate as possible. Accurate profile information will also aid the right people to find you. To update any of the information, select the link next to the area you wish to change. This will take you to the appropriate update page. When finished, be sure to select the "Update" link at the bottom of any of these pages to save your changes.

What is the basis for the You-Based Event Report recommendations?


Using your profile information and the profile information of other attendees and exhibitors at CES, the intelligent search engine matches you to Companies, Products, People, and Peers aligned to your stated business interests. It also provides insight into search terms being used by other attendees who have a profile similar to yours. These reports are active and are continuously updated, so check back often.

You can use these recommendations to plan your activities for CES or use the recommendations as ideas for executing your own searches. Be sure to add those matches you wish to pursue to your "Event Plan," your personalized agenda for the event.

How do I find people that are relevant to my interests?


There are two ways you can find people using your portal.

You can use the search engine. You can execute a keyword search on any term(s) you wish. You can conduct a keyword search directly from the Home page or by clicking on the "Search" tab immediately below the page header. Or, you can use one of the criteria based searches which give you the option of using any one or a combination of search criteria. Under the "Search" tab, see the "Find People" and "Find Products and Companies" sub-tabs to execute these criteria based searches. The "Find People" search will return both attendees and exhibitors. The "Find Products and Companies" search will return exhibitors only.

Utilize the You-Based Event Recommendation Reports periodically in the weeks before CES; these reports are activated one-by-one. Several of these reports are active lists which are continuously updated as more people register for the show and use the portal. So, be sure to check back often. These reports are found under the "Reports" tab, then, click on the "You-Based Event Reports" link.
